In the past few days President Obama has attempted to make substantial progress with Muslims around the globe. His 6000-word speech in Cairo on Thursday has been lauded by the media, and heralded as a speech on par with Martin Luther King's "Dream" speech as well as Ronald Reagan's "Tear down this wall!' speech.
Then came Merkel.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel became visibly annoyed at Obama when he compared himself to the sitcom character Steve Erkel. Going off teleprompter Obama was reported as saying, "You see; if I was Steve Erkel and we got married, your name would be Merkel Erkel. Now, that's funny!" Although Merkel sternly pointed out the inappropriate nature of the comment, the Chancellor was equally quick to note how much Obama really does resemble the nerdy icon.
When asked by a reporter why he made the comparison to Merkel, Obama responded, "Did I do that?"
